I don't know how much press there has been nationally on this, but there has been a lot of rancor here in Arizona over a vicious crime, a multi-victim murder, and kidnapping to Mexico of 2 young children, all perpetrated by an illegal immigrant, as well as the subsequent comments from his "girlfriend" who is also an illegal immigrant, both from Mexico.
Rodrigo Cervantes Zavala murdered 3 adults his "girlfriends" grandparents, and her uncle, and kidnapped his two children both under 3 years old. He had previously been convicted of assault and other charges in the US, but was somehow still here. After killing the family members, he took the children to the area around Puerto Vallarta, and was ultimately picked up by Mexican Police.
Isabel Acosta, his "girlfriend" and the mother of the two children, was taken to Mexico (at the publics expense) along w/ Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and other Sheriff Deputies in order to pick up her children and return them to the US. Upon being reunited with her children in Mexico, she said the following "I didn't think I'd see them again, but now they're with me. I am so proud of my country. What the authorities of the United States couldn't do, they succeeded in doing here. This is my Mexico!"
Isn't this just swell? Here in Phoenix, we have at least one murder every night. I don't have the statistics currently to back this up, but based upon what I read in the local paper, at least 50% of the murderers are illegal aliens. We have had at 3 police officers killed by illegal aliens just in Phoenix in the last few years. I know, the normal answer is "most illegal aliens are law-abiding people". If you ignore the fact that they committed a crime when they crossed the border, that is somewhat true. But almost all of these crimes could have been avoided if we didn't have this big problem with illegal immigration. Legal immigrants are subject to background checks. income verification, reason for entering etc. Some 40% of the Arizona prisoner population are illegal immigrants, costing the state, and federal goverments (you and me) 100's of millions of dollars nationwide.
Lets get back to this nice couple, Rodrigo and Isabel. I'm not going to blame her for the murders obviously, but are you telling me that in the 4 or more years that she's been with this piece of garbage, she didn't have some clue that maybe she should stop having babies with him? That maybe it would be best to get her family away from this scumbag? If it wasn't important enough to get married, was it so important to stick around? In case you can't tell, I'm a little pissed at this woman. How dare she speak ill of the US, the country where she has been sucking at the public teat for so many years. Does she think that the incredibly corrupt Mexican Police would have spent any time looking for this guy if it wasn't because of pressure from the US public and from law enforcement in Arizona? But this is typical of most Mexican illegals. A recent survey of illegal aliens from Mexico revealed that 78% felt that they were entitled to work and live in the US. I know from personal experience that Mexicans are very patriotic to "La Patria" the Motherland. A common expression in Mexico is "Soy Puro Mexicano" which translates to I am and will always be pure Mexican". I have no problem with this, Mexico has many wonderful attributes and a history of defending itself to be proud of. I recommend that if they feel this way, it would be best, particularly considering they're not entitled to be here, to keep thoughts like Isabel's to themselves, and to at least be gracious about the country they are abusing. Oh yes, the last thing she said when interviewed was that she was going to take the kids to the Dr. once she got back to Arizona. Why not pay your own way with a Mexican Dr. as long as your in this wonderful country that is so much better than the US. I want the kids to receive reasonable care of course, but again, I pay big bucks for my health care, if you want me to help out with people who are legally entitled to government benefits for a short while until they can care for themselves, fine. But this is just another cost that I"m made to bear so that illegal aliens can take jobs from my friends (it has happened more than once) and depress the wages for many jobs in this country.
One last, and crucial point - we can't execute, and may not be able to extradite this murderous piece of excrement from Mexico. Mexico won't extradite anyone facing a possible death sentence. Another fine illegal immigrant killed a police officer (and a former partner of one of my dearest life long friends) in a botched bank robbery. This piece of garbage, Rudy Romero, ran off to Guadalajara, where he was able to live out in the open for some 9 years. Arizona and the Mexican government were only able to reach an agreement for extradition about 1 1/2 years ago. To my knowledge he is still in Mexico but in Mexican custody, but at least Mexico has agreed to extradite him. There is no doubt he killed this officer. But due to Mexico's meddling in our legal system (can you imagine the outcry in Mexico if we did the same thing?) and widespread police corruption (Rudy hooked up with the local drug lord once he got to Guadalajara) he has been able to avoid conviction for over 10 years, and avoid any possibility of being executed. Now here's the rub with Senor Cervantes Zavala - Mexico has recently ruled that along w/ not extraditing someone facing the death penalty, they will also not extradite anyone facing life in prison!! It may be possibility to impose lengthy consecutive sentences, but political and precedential concerns may prevent this as well!!
But it's a small price to pay for the ability to pay the cook at Burger King, or the maid at your local Best Western a little less. God Bless America!!
